Portfolio selections 2014 – 2020
Update: I no longer do client work but might be able to provide advice or share contacts, just reach out.
Here's a subset of about 50 sites I built since 2014. Clients included artists, entertainers, nonprofits, SMEs, and Fortune 100 companies including Google, Lowe's, State Farm, Target, Verizon, Walmart, Wells Fargo and more.
Dev Work: Websites & Apps
Walt Disney World Resorts
Website 2017I built The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Walt Disney World Vacation, an interactive and animated website for Walt Disney World Resorts. This one-page scrolling site features multiple image carousels, expandable sections, and little surprises like animated pullquotes and sparkles. Yes, sparkles.
Land Defense
Web app 2015Land Defense is a web application I conceived and developed using Ruby on Rails. Intended for use by organizations seeking to report land use violations on indigenous-owned territory, this concept app features user authentication and CRUD capability. The project is deployed on Heroku and the code lives in this GitHub repo.
Hot Smoked Pictures
Website 2014Hot Smoked Pictures is a Canadian film production company headed by documentary filmmaker Gabi Kislat.
The custom portfolio gallery landing page beautifully displays bold video stills that animate as they populate the page.
Collective Decision Engines
Mobile app 2015Collective Decision Engines created a tool for market research that allows for quadratic voting. In the application, users are given a limited number of votes to assign, presenting an interesting visual design challenge. I provide some UI consulting and occasional updates.
NYC Coworking Map
Map 2016–2019I created the first map and comprehensive listing of every coworking space and shared workspace in the greater NYC metro area as an open source project. Whether you're in Long Island or Staten Island, if you're looking for shared workspace, this is the resource.
New Worker Magazine
Online publication 2013–2020With over 100 contributors in 15 countries, New Worker Magazine was the largest coworking industry publication in the US and the leading publication for the global coworking community. I started the publication in 2013 and built the initial site.
Face Dazzler
Web app 2015Face Dazzler is a web application I conceived and built that allows users to experiment with facial detection technology in real time. Included are tips to help thwart facial detection in real life, and stylized drag-and-drop overlays that "break" the algorithm’s ability to find a face online. Users can also use their webcam or upload a photo locally to experiment with becoming undetectable.
Chris Thayer
Website 2016Chris Thayer is a stand-up comic who has appeared in the films The Civil Dead (2022) and Teenage Badass (2020), as well as on Comedy Central, VICELAND, and TBS. He’s written for Comedy Central, The Pete Holmes Show, JASH, Funny or Die, and TBS.
I designed and built him a website and implemented a new calendar system that integrates with his booking management tools.
Zero Street Photography
Photography portfolio 2017Zero is a Lower East Side street photographer. She wanted a portfolio site that was easy to maintain.
I was an early adopter of an artificial intelligence-based website builder, and saw Zero's site as the perfect use case to try it out. Using only a trove of scanned black-and-white film images and one sentence of text, Zero's portfolio is as cutting edge, stark, and curiously unpredictable as her photography work.
The Void
Submission portal 2016I often grapple with the notion that despite all we do, there is no point. My way of dealing with this is through a gallows humor that sometimes surfaces in projects like these. The Void is a publication that will never publish your writing; though I built the site to have a functional submission portal, all work that writers submit to The Void will be ignored, perhaps profoundly so. Submit to The Void, or just check out its Twitter account which retweets writers' commiseration over the pointlessness of writing.
Sonya Hammons
Artist website 2018Sonya Hammons is a textile artist in Sausalito, CA. She's also a sustainability leader who has held management roles at the United Nations, the US State Department, and the Congressional Research Service. She needed a flexible website that could grow with her as her professional focus shifts over time.
Geneva Guerin
Filmmaker website 2018Geneva Guerin is a filmmaker in Montreal who has directed and produced four feature documentaries: La Cantine Afghane (2012), a documentary on Afghan refugees in Paris; Van Horne & Waverly (2013), a portrait of Montreal’s Mile End; We Call Them Intruders (2015), on Canadian mining companies in Africa, and Ghost Particle (2021) on quantum physics at CERN.
ClinkedIn
Spoof web app 2016Introducing ClinkedIn: the social network for white-collar criminals serving jailtime, a project I built at the Stupid Shit No One Needs and Terrible Ideas Hackathon at NYU-ITP in Feb 2016. A send up of LinkedIn features profiles of Bernie Madoff, Martha Stewart, Enron CEOs and other inside traders and securities fraudsters, and comedic profiles thereof.
➰➰➰
AI-backed literary publication 2019Launched on 1/9/19, ➰➰➰ (“many loops”) is a literary magazine somewhat preoccupied by recursion. The intelligible face of an AI backend, the publication is being taught via machine learning to recognize instances of recursion in literary works. The vision is that it will eventually publish whatever it sees fit.
